The main purpose of our annual events is to raise
money and donate it to worthy causes. The Board of Stewards is pleased
to announce that contributions to charitable institutions have been
made in the name of The Friendly Sons for the years since 2000 - in
the sum of $1,500,000.
Just a few of the beneficiaries are listed below:
Charities & Community Activities We Have Supported
1. Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center - $1,000,000 pledge in support
of the Pediatric Center’s Let Us Build a House Capital Campaign
to build a new home in Yonkers, NY for children with complex medical
needs and multiple disabilities.
2. St. Joseph’s Seminary and College, Dunwoodie, Yonkers - the
major Seminary of the Archdiocese of New York preparing candidates
for ordination to the priesthood.
3. Great Hunger Memorial - a memorial to those many Irish who died
victims of the Great Potato Famine of the 1840’s in Ireland.
This memorial is located in Macy Park, off the Saw Mill River Parkway
in Greenburgh.
4. Meals for the Homeless - provides free meals to hundreds of homeless
persons through the Sharing Community in southwest Yonkers. In 23
years of serving food daily, the Sharing Community has served in excess
of two million meals to needy individuals.
5. St. Peter’s School, Yonkers, New York - distributed funds
to provide new desks to the third and fourth grade students.
6. Archdiocese for Military Services - to support this private program
of the Church with necessary funds to encourage and support vocations
to the military priesthood in support of our armed forces throughout
the world.
7. Rosary Hill Home - to assist in the mission of this dedicated institution
which provides love and solace to the terminally ill.
8. Inner City School Fund - to assist the inner city schools in the
County of Westchester.
9. De La Salle Academy- an Inner City School in Manhattan, providing
a quality education for boys who could not otherwise attend the school
for financial reasons.
10. Almoner's Fund - There have been four almoners in the history
of the society. The Almoner, on behalf of the members of the Friendly
Sons, makes confidential contributions to indivuals in dire need.
